Restaurant Thierry Drapeau-Logis de la Chabotterie
Fourty minutes from MDM is one of the best restaurants in the Vendée, the Michelin 2 star Restaurant Thierry Drapeau. Located in the historic Logis de la Chabotterie (which in itself is worth a visit, see our guide to the area) Thierry Drapeau brings his sense of invention to the table and will introduce you to flavours and inspirations from all regions of France. Dine here for a culinary experience not to be missed!
Just a five minute drive down the road in the small village of Saint-Juire Champgillon we have the Saint-Georges. Chef Willy Lefay focuses on innovation while respecting tradition, often using long forgotten ingredients and concepts in his gourmet creations. While the menu changes with the seasons, it never disappoints!
P’tits Ventres de Terre
Twenty five minutes away in La Roche Sur Yon is an amazing little restaurant whose methods of cooking are very original and which truly embrace the soul and spirit of Vendéen cuisine. ‘P’tits Ventres de Terre’ are small clay pots inspired by the traditional Vendée ‘Pot a Mogette’ (cooking pot). Using recipes that follow the rhythms of the seasons, Master Chef Lionel Guilbaud infuses these pots with his own special blend of ingredients and then simmers the creations to create delicious, unique dishes. The pots are crowned with bread or brioche which is steam cooked by the vapours from the simmering pots.
Lucon is approximately fifteen minutes from Sainte Hermine and here you will find a variety of restaurants of which L’Ardoise Gourmande is simply one of the best.
Au Fil des Saisons
The principle used at Au Fil des Saisons in Lucon is to use local and seasonal products hence they change their menu approximately every two months. They also make their delicious breads and ice creams in house. Dine in their garden patio in the summer under the shade of the trees.
Located a five minute walk from Manoir du Moulin in Sainte Hermine, Le Macis offers some very nice dishes at reasonable prices and has a great patio space for those warm summer evenings. The menu changes regularly and they also have a large selection of wines available for purchase from their cave (or to enjoy while you dine).
Le Pub des Halles
Right in the heart of Sainte Hermine and a short stroll from Manoir du Moulin, Kevin and Sarah welcome you to Le Pub des Halles. Serving up delicious pub style food including English classics like fish and chips, meat pies and chicken curry but also offering a few French dishes such as a turkey breast in cream sauce and a variety of omelettes. Guinness and French beers on tap and a variety of English beers and ciders also available.
Ferme auberge du Moulin Migne
A 30 minute drive through the country brings you to the Moulin Migne. A true rustic farm experience, Isabelle prepares her dishes using only meat, vegetables and fruit produced on the farm. Prepared in traditional French style and served in the equally traditional ‘Longere’ farmhouse, the menu changes with the seasons and is always delicious.
Fourty minutes from Manoir du Moulin in La Rochelle, father and son team Christopher and Richard Coutanceau combine refined traditional cuisine with innovation in this Michelin two star restaurant. Located right on the beach, Restaurant Coutanceau is the ideal place to dine on amazing food while the sun sets into the sea.
